To a clean quart jar add: 1/2 C grated organic horseradish, 1/2 C grated organic ginger root, 1/2 C diced organic onion, 1/4 C grated organic turmeric root, 10 cloves organic garlic crushed/diced (you can leave the skins on, since you will strain this later), 2 organic jalapeno peppers chopped w/seeds (this is important to leave the seeds since the heat will be part of the cure), 2 fresh organic rosemary sprigs, 2 fresh organic thyme sprigs (I found that after filling the quart jars, it would have been easier to add all the fresh herb sprigs first), 1/2 sliced lemon, 1/2 sliced lime.
Extras you can use if desired: cayenne pepper, habanero pepper, clove buds, star anise, ginseng, rose hips, peppercorns, oregano, the list is very long and as you look further into Fire Cider and it's history you will find many new ingredients to use and make it just the way you want it to be.
Now, fill the quart jar with organic apple cider vinegar, take a long handle spoon or chop stick and insert it into the jar to dislodge any air bubbles, finish refilling to the top with additional apple cider vinegar.
Wipe the top of the jar rim dry and screw on canning jar top, just finger tight. Give a good shake and see what a lovely elixir you have just made.
Now find a cool, dark cabinet to rest your lovely little brew, every day give it a good shake and repeat for 30 days. After a whole four weeks of and waiting and shaking, it's time to strain. Over a large glass or stainless bowl, strain your Fire cider, squeeze those herbs and veggies to get every last drop of goodness. You can save the veggies to use a bit in stir fry or as a spicy note in a smoothie. I plan on freezing my strained veggies in an ice cube tray so I can use a bit when ever needed. The strained mixture goes into a clean container and is kept in the fridge. I plan on drinking a shot glass full mixed 40-50% w/raw local honey. You can double or triple the amount if you feel the sniffles coming on. Can't wait to try my elixir. Let me know if you give this a try or if you have any questions.
